Hixson Helps the Homeless Community
The residents at Dominion Senior Living of Hixson have truly embraced living a life of purpose. Many of our residents have expressed their desire to still embrace purposeful living and meaningful work. Over the past year, our residents have found many reasons to give back to the Chattanooga community. Whether collecting school supplies for a nearby school that serves at-risk students or packing toiletry items for the homeless community, all are eager to pitch in.
One of our resident’s daughter has been particularly helpful in linking the Dominion residents to worthy causes. She helped arrange for Dominion of Hixson to host a series of guest speakers who make presentations about their experiences working with those less fortunate and then they invited residents to become involved at some level. Our residents truly know that giving of themselves has no age limit.
One of their favorite partnerships has been with the Weekly Shower Ministry at First Baptist Church in downtown Chattanooga. This church has utilized extra space in their gym to build six showers for the homeless to use on a weekly basis. They also have washers and dryers available and aid them in laundry services. In addition to physical assistance, the Shower Ministry hosts a weekly warm meal and worship service meeting the spiritual needs of the homeless as well. Our residents loved gathering travel size toiletries and even enlisted the help of their family members to do so as well. Bingo toiletry prizes are often donated to this specific ministry need.
Most recently, our residents collected socks and toilet paper to donate to the Hamilton County Homeless Coalition. This specific ministry will meet the homeless in their “tent cities” and show them the love of Jesus.
Our Dominion of Hixson residents embody our team value of “Generosity” which states: we are generous with ourselves, our lives, our time, our talent, and our treasures. We connect our lives to our mission to give ourselves to the work we have been entrusted with. Our residents lead the way in their example of being generous and giving.
